Fresh off gold, Breezy Johnson eyes team event and possible home Games

MILAN — The first gold medal of the Games was claimed by Alpine skier Breezy Johnson.

Fresh off the win, Johnson sat down with KSL's Matt Gephardt and made it clear she's already looking ahead — to the next race and, with some prodding, the future.

Johnson calls Salt Lake City home and said she loves that Utah fought to bring the Games back in 2034.

"I think everyone is very excited for 2034, which is very cool," Johnson said.

As to whether she's excited about 2034, and the possibility of competing, Johnson acknowledged the timeline gives her pause.

"I really wanted it to be 2030 because I'll be 38 in 2034, which felt a lot more daunting before Lindsey Vonn came out of retirement. But I would love to try to go for 2034 and try to have a home Games."

But more than 2034, Johnson says she is focused on the remaining races in Cortina.

"I'm not trying to get, as the term, 'out over your skis,' implies. I'm taking things day by day," she laughed.

That next day comes quickly.

Johnson will be back on the slopes again on Tuesday, this time teamed up with Mikaela Shiffrin in a team competition.
