Georgia coach Kirby Smart has suspended wide receiver Colbie Young for an indefinite period of time. The suspension was announced one day after Young's arrest on two battery charges and one charge of assault on an unborn child. The arrest followed an altercation with a 20-year-old woman who told Athens-Clarke County police she is Young's ex-girlfriend. Smart said he met with Young on Wednesday morning. Young is not expected to be available when No. 5 Georgia plays Mississippi State on Saturday. Young had three catches for a team-leading 51 yards in last week's 31-13 win over Auburn.

Quarterback troubles are contributing to struggles at Florida State, N.C. State and North Carolina through the first half of the season. All three teams added transfer passers. The preseason ACC favorite Seminoles have just one win while getting inconsistent play from former Clemson and Oregon State QB DJ Uiagalelei. Injuries have been the culprit for the Wolfpack and Tar Heels. N.C. State twice has seen Coastal Carolina transfer Grayson McCall knocked from games amid concussion concerns. UNC lost opening-night starter Max Johnson to a season-ending injury and has started three quarterbacks this season.

Florida's historically porous defense can be traced to having three coordinators in as many years, the team's top two pass rushers transferring and bringing together so many new faces that communication, cohesion and consistency seem more like pipedreams than principles. Nowadays, "D" pretty much stands for downfall in Gainesville. After all, failing to fix that side of the ball has been embattled coach Billy Napier's biggest blunder. The Gators showed signs of growth in back-to-back wins against Mississippi State and UCF. But a much stiffer challenge awaits Saturday night in Knoxville against No. 8 Tennessee.
