MILAN, Italy — Following another explosive second period, Team USA cruised past Finland in dominant fashion to remain a perfect 2-0 in preliminary play.
After defeating Czechia 5-1 on Thursday afternoon, Team USA picked up right where they left off with another explosive offensive performance against Finland.
Despite a fairly competitive first period, USA erupted in the middle frame with three goals on 21 shots to consistently break down the Fins' defense with speed, creativity and pinpoint passing to expose gaps.
Upon scoring USA's fourth goal against Finland, team captain and local athlete Hilary Knight tied former Olympians Natalie Darwitz and Katie King for the most career Olympic goals by an American (14).
Notably, goaltender Aerin Frankel recorded her first Olympic shutout with 11 saves as the United States suffocated the Fins defensively, with very little room to operate.
