SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake man with an extensive criminal history across multiple states is now facing felony charges in Utah.

Demian Austin Robbins, 56, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with kidnapping and two counts of drug distribution, a second-degree felony; and two counts of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony.

On Wednesday, Salt Lake police responded to the area of 1400 W. North Temple after a neighbor heard Robbins yelling at a woman to get back into his apartment and the woman screaming, "Let go of me" and, "You're hurting me," according to charging documents.

When police arrived, Robbins would not open the door but officers said they could hear a woman inside.

"The female then came out of the apartment screaming, 'Help me. Help me,'" the charges state. The woman had "blood all over her face, bruising and swelling around her right eye and cheek, her nose appeared crooked as though it might be broken and there was dried blood around her nose, lips and chin."

The woman told officers that Robbins offered her drugs and to let her stay the night in his apartment, but then barricaded the door when she went in and "started 'bashing' her head into the ground" when she tried to leave, the charges allege.

Prosecutors say while Robbins does not have a significant criminal history in Utah, he "has a long out-of-state criminal history, including 80 incidents across 17 states."
