MIDVALE — Police are investigating after they say shots were fired between two vehicles driving along State Street between Midvale and Sandy on Tuesday evening.

Unified Police Sgt. Aymee Race said the vehicles were southbound on State Street near Princeton Drive (8400 South) when the shooting began. Witnesses told police that approximately six rounds were fired between the vehicles as they traveled from Princeton Drive to about 9000 South in Sandy.

It was not immediately clear if shots were fired from both vehicles or just from one vehicle at the other.

Race said the vehicles drove away, and police are still trying to determine who was involved. Police do not yet know if anyone was injured in the shooting, she said.

Portions of State Street between Princeton Drive and 9000 South was closed to traffic as police investigate.

The stretch of road was reopened just before 7:30 p.m.

No other information was made available Tuesday night.
