SALT LAKE CITY — Firefighters battled a fire at a commercial building Monday night that led to a partial collapse of the roof and some interior walls, according to the Salt Lake City Fire Department.
The blaze occurred at a warehouse that houses multiple businesses, located at 960 S. 700 West.
Hannah Youell, communications manager with the Salt Lake City Fire Department, said crews responded just before 8:10 p.m. Monday, and the fire eventually prompted a response from dozens of firefighters.
The fire produced a large plume of smoke and flames that could be seen across Salt Lake City. According to Youell, the fire was burning in the attic of the building, and as crews were trying to extinguish it, the roof began to collapse. Firefighters were able to evacuate the building safely, she said.
Crews continued to attack the fire from the front and side of the building. By 10 p.m., the fire was contained to the southeastern corner of the building.
Youell said no one was injured, and investigators are looking into the origin of the fire to determine a cause.
