KAYSVILLE — Police believe the body of a man missing since mid-September has been found.

About 8 p.m. on Thursday, a body was discovered near the Shoreline Trail in the area of Adams Canyon.

"Based on clothing descriptions, there is reason to believe the individual may be Colin Mills, who was recently reported missing," Kaysville police said in a prepared statement.

The body was taken to the Office of the State Medical Examiner to make an identification, as well as to determine the cause of death. The Davis County Sheriff's Office will conduct the investigation. The office said Friday that the body was found off the trail, but they are waiting for the medical examiner's report before releasing additional information.

Mills, 40, was last seen on Sept. 14 in Kaysville, according to his family.

"He stated he was going for a walk," according to a "missing person" flier that was created to help find him. "He did not take his wallet or phone."

The flier also included a message to Mills from his family, saying that they loved him.

"Whatever you're facing, we can handle it together," the flier states. "You are needed. You are missed. You are not alone. Please come home."

A post on the "Find Colin Mills" Facebook page on Friday stated that the past few weeks have been "the most difficult of our lives."

"We are devastated by this loss, but also deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, time and effort so many of you gave to help us search for him. Friends, neighbors and even strangers showed up for Colin and for our family in ways we will never forget.

"We love you, Colin, and we will miss you forever."
