Police arrest 14-year-old in Midvale homicide investigation

MIDVALE — A 14-year-old male was arrested Friday for investigation of homicide following a traffic incident that left a 23-year-old West Valley City man dead.

At approximately 8:18 p.m. Thursday, Unified police responded to a call of a traffic accident with injuries near Jackson Street and La Salle Drive in Midvale. Despite first responders administering lifesaving measures, the individual, identified by police as 23-year-old Mason Snowball of West Valley City, died on scene, according to a press release from the Unified Police Department.

An initial investigation found that Snowball had sustained a gunshot wound, and a homicide investigation was initiated.

At approximately 11 p.m. Friday, Unified police arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with the incident. The boy was booked into the Salt Lake County Juvenile Detention Center as the investigation continues.

The Unified Police Department extended its condolences to the Snowball family.

Correction: Police initially provided the identity of Mason Snowball as Nathan Snowball.
