KSL.com Top 20+1: Top teams face out-of-state competition — did that offer any shakeup?

Save Story

SALT LAKE CITY — The top three teams in Utah all tested themselves against out-of-state competition last week.

Corner Canyon, Skyridge and Lone Peak — which have held the top three positions in the KSL.com Top-20+1 poll since Week 1 — all played non-Utah teams in Week 4.

The Chargers welcomed in the top team from Arizona, the Knights traveled to Vegas for a showdown with the No. 2 team in the nation (which ended in an odd fashion), and the Falcons traveled to Idaho for a quick business trip.

Did that impact the poll?

To the rankings ...

1. Corner Canyon (4-0)

The Chargers welcomed in Liberty (Peoria, Ariz.) — a team ranked by USA Today as the No. 22 team in the nation. The result? A 45-14 drubbing by Corner Canyon.

Quarterback Helaman Casuga accounted for five touchdowns as the Chargers continued to look like the best in the state — and one of the best in all of America.

2. Skyridge (4-0)

Quarterback Kaneal Sweetwyne had six first-half touchdowns (four passing and two rushing) and the Falcons made easy work of Highland, Idaho.

3. Lone Peak (3-1)

The Knights' journey to Vegas to face No. 2 nationally ranked Bishop Gorman ended early.

Early in the third quarter, with Gorman leading 35-14, a tussle broke out on Lone Peak's sideline. More than three Lone Peak players entered the field, which, according to Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association rules, mandated a forfeit.

Officials declared Gorman the winner, officially recorded as a 2-0 forfeit.

4. Ridgeline (4-0)

Quarterback Nate Dahl threw for two touchdowns and rushed in a couple more to help Ridgeline post its fourth straight blowout win with a 34-10 victory over Mountain Crest. The Riverhawks have outscored each of their opponents by at least 20 points.

5. American Fork (4-0)

The Caveman jumped out to a 24-0 halftime lead but had to withstand a furious comeback attempt by Farmington. In the end, American Fork survived, holding on for a 24-22 win to remain undefeated.

6. West (3-1)

Illinois commit QB Kamden Lopati threw for five touchdowns as West opened up region play with a 66-7 win over Hunter.

7. Herriman (4-0)

Running back Filisi Filipe's had two long runs — a 76-yard scoring jaunt in the second quarter and a 59-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter — to help Herriman to a 35-24 victory over Riverton.

8. Davis (3-1)

Quarterback Tradon Bessinger threw four touchdowns, and Bode Sparrow scored on both offense and defense as Davis blasted Alta 59-14.

9. Fremont (3-1)

Two-way star Salesi Moa showcased his elite versatility, returning an interception for a touchdown and catching a 76-yard score, to help Fremont dominate Bonneville 43-0.

10. Lehi (2-1)

The Pioneers used their bye week to find their offense. After being held to just 7 points in a loss to Mountain Crest in Week 2, Lehi scored 35 points in the first half during a 42-14 rout of Desert Hills.

  • 11 - Orem (2-2)
  • 12 - Westlake (4-0)
  • 13 - Crimson Cliffs (3-1)
  • 14 - Syracuse (3-1)
  • 15 - Mountain Ridge (2-2)
  • 16 - Box Elder (4-0)
  • 17 - Springville (3-1)
  • 18 - Morgan (3-1)
  • 19 - Riverton (2-2)
  • 20 - Wasatch (3-1)

Plus-1: Cyprus

Is something brewing in Magna?

After winning just three games total over the last two seasons — 1-9 in 2024 and 2-8 in 2023 — Cyprus has already matched that mark just four weeks into this year.

And they haven't just been winning — they've been rolling.

In Week 3, the Pirates thumped Tooele 42-14, then followed it up with a dominant 55-0 shutout of Kearns last Friday.
