HEBER CITY — A patient at an addiction recovery center in Wasatch County has been arrested after sheriff's deputies say he stabbed another patient in the neck.
Hunter Ryan Kluser, 20, was arrested for investigation of attempted murder on Wednesday at an unnamed addiction recovery center in the county. A police booking affidavit says by the time law enforcement arrived, a person with a stab wound to the neck was being transported by helicopter to the University of Utah Medical Center.
A detective with the sheriff's office spoke with witnesses and reviewed surveillance footage from the recovery center. The video showed that Kluser, a voluntary patient at the facility, attacked a fellow patient "without warning," the affidavit states.
The patient was sitting on a couch in a common area of the recovery center, "when Hunter walks up behind him and starts swinging a knife at the victim's neck, unprovoked," the document says.
Kluser continues swinging the knife "even after the victim slumps over to protect himself," the affidavit says. Kluser appears to "make contact with this victim's neck" at least six times, the document says.
Responding paramedics said they treated the injured patient for a puncture wound to the neck. The sheriff's office said the person is expected to live.
