WEST VALLEY CITY — A West Valley man is facing several felony charges accusing him of shooting two men outside a party — including shooting one man 14 times after allegedly checking to see if he was OK.
Osue Valentin-Alarcon, 24, was charged Wednesday in 3rd District Court with two counts of shooting at a person and causing serious injury, a first-degree felony, and possession of a gun by a restricted person, a second-degree felony.
West Valley police were called to the area of 3000 South and 5900 West on March 23 on a report of a shooting. Officers arrived and found two men "were bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds and were treated on scene then transported to the hospital," according to charging documents.
One man "sustained gunshot wounds to his hips and hand, causing several broken bones," while the other "sustained a total of 14 gunshot wounds, including multiple wounds to his abdomen, arms and leg," the charges state.
One of the men told police he was standing outside with the second victim when a man "he only knew as his baby mother's cousin," later identified as Valentin-Alarcon, began arguing with the second victim.
"Next thing he knew, (the man) heard multiple 'pops' and (the second victim) told him they needed to go, but (the first victim's) legs were unsteady and he realized he had been shot," according to the charges.
"(The second victim) later stated that Valentin-Alarcon wanted to box with him and (the first victim) stepped between them to try to stop the fighting," the charges state. When the second man realized Valentin-Alarcon was armed, he began to run, but "Valentin-Alarcon followed him and kept shooting."
Investigators say Valentin-Alarcon then came up to the second victim and "asked him if he was good and then proceeded to put the firearm against his stomach, firing it again," the charges allege.
"Given the severity of the injuries to the victims, it is pure luck that neither victim was killed," prosecutors wrote in the court documents.
The charges say a federal detainer has also been placed on Valentin-Alarcon.
