LOS ANGELES — Lauren Betts had 30 points and 14 rebounds and overall No. 1 seed UCLA defeated Richmond 84-67 to reach the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins broke open a close game in the third quarter after the Spiders tied it at halftime. UCLA outscored the Spiders 29-7 to lead 65-43 going into the fourth. UCLA's defense forced Richmond into missing 12 of 15 shots and going 5 1/2 minutes without scoring. The Bruins next play fifth-seeded Mississippi in a regional semifinal in Spokane, Washington. The Spiders were led by Maggie Doogan with 27 points and seven assists in the school's first-ever appearance in the second round of March Madness.
