WEST JORDAN — Investigators are asking for help to identify the driver of a SUV they believe struck and killed a 23-year-old motorcyclist on Tuesday.
Garrett Randall Pace, 23, was hit by an SUV near the intersection of Gardner Lane and Redwood Road in West Jordan about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to a West Jordan Police Department press release.
The dark-colored SUV fled the scene, heading west on Gardner Lane, and was last seen traveling north at 3200 W. Haun Drive, the release says.
Police responding to the scene found Pace lying in the road next to his motorcycle, West Jordan detective Dirk Peterson said. Pace was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition, where he died of his injuries.
Redwood Road from 8200 South to 8700 South was closed late Tuesday while police investigated the scene.
Detectives believe the SUV is a 2003-2006 Chevy or GMC, with "significant damage to the passenger side of the vehicle including passenger mirror, running board and passenger side windows," the release says.
