PROVO — BYU's dismissal of former women's basketball coach Amber Whiting continues to shake up the Cougars' roster.
Former BYU sharpshooter Kailey Woolston reportedly plans to enter the transfer portal, according to a Wednesday report from On3.
Woolston led the NCAA in 3-point percentage as a freshman at 46.6% when she averaged 13.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in 2023-24 prior to departing for an 18-month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Baltimore, Maryland, last May.
That includes a career-high 26 points in a 67-53 loss to Kansas.
Woolston is the second member of the BYU roster to enter the transfer portal, joining starting point guard Amari Whiting who entered the portal when her mother and former coach was let go. The duo were among the most electric back courts in the Big 12 as freshmen, but both will now seek a new school while the Cougars interview for the seventh head coach in program history.
The 5-foot-11 guard was the Utah Gatorade, MaxPreps and Deseret News Player of the Year as a senior at Lone Peak High School, where she led the Knights to back-to-back 6A state titles and a spot in the National State Championships Invitational in Washington, D.C.
She committed to the Cougars over interest from Iowa, Marquette, Oklahoma State, Utah and Wake Forest, and even helped provide a sounding board for her sister Kennedy — who committed to BYU as a sophomore before backing off her pledge last year.
The younger Woolston averaged 14.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.7 steals in leading the Knights to a fourth consecutive 6A championship this past season.
The report comes a day after BYU wing Marya Hudgins announced her re-commitment to the Cougars with an Instagram post that read, "All in" and the hashtag #cougs.
The 6-foot Santa Clara transfer from Aurora, Colorado, averaged 4.6 points and 6.0 rebounds in 152 minutes across seven games last year for the Cougars before missing the rest of the season with an injury.
