RIVERTON — An American Fork man who was arrested last year in Missouri and accused of kidnapping a teenage girl is now facing numerous additional charges.
Douglas Jonathan Logan, 23, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with rape, object rape and forcible sodomy, first-degree felonies; forcible sexual abuse and five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, second-degree felonies; child endangerment, a third-degree felony; and lewdness, a class B misdemeanor.
Logan met a 16-year-old girl when he was her "youth mentor" and also her supervisor at a retail store, according to charging documents.
Prosecutors say he "used his position of trust as the victim's youth mentor and then as a supervisor to groom the victim. The victim recounted harrowing details of the abuse she endured during her 'relationship' with (Logan), occurring in Utah County, Salt Lake County, and across the country on their way to Missouri. The victim described multiple rapes, multiple strangulations, being knocked unconscious, and having her back clawed to the point it left scars," the charges allege.
In July, the girl was reported missing and was believed to be with Logan.
"During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that (the teen) and Logan both resigned from their jobs on July 9, 2024, and left their cellphones with Logan's family," according to charging documents.
After learning the two may be headed to Missouri, authorities in that state were contacted. The Callaway County Sheriff's Office found the two and Logan was arrested and later charged in 3rd District Court with kidnapping, a second-degree felony.
While charging Logan with kidnapping, prosecutors also noted in court documents that there were "active investigations involving the victim and defendant, to include grooming, rape and gun charges" and that additional charges were pending.
According to court documents filed Monday, the teen told Logan that she had changed her mind and wanted to go home instead of to Missouri.
"Keep talking like that, and I'll kill you," Logan responded, according to the charges. "(The girl) said over the span of a few days she continued telling him she wanted to go home, but he ignored her."
The girl outlined several instances of alleged physical abuse by Logan, including multiple times of being put in a headlock or "chokehold."
On one occasion, while driving to Missouri, Logan "squeezed her so tight that she couldn't talk and began hearing ringing in her ears. (She) said that while in the chokehold,' he picked her up by the neck and dragged her into the woods," the charges say. "(She) said Logan then put her on the ground but then put her in another chokehold and told her that he was going to kill her and leave her dead body in the grass. (The teen) said Logan continued squeezing her neck, and she described that 'her body began twitching while her vision was beginning to go completely black.' Logan then released her, bit her neck, and clawed her side."
The girl told police that "Logan told her that his life was ruined, that it was her fault, and that it was her responsibility to make up for it," the charges state.
When asked about the "clawing," the teen told investigators that Logan "always clawed her" and she has a permanent scar on her back from it.
The girl also stated that "on two separate occasions, Logan 'knocked her out,'" according to the court documents.
Police say Logan admitted to being sexually active with the teen and allegedly said, "I am probably going to jail for the rest of my life. I'll accept that."
