PROVO — Good things keep coming from San Antonio for BYU football, and specifically the high school All-American Bowl.
Four-star linebacker McKay Madsen, the 6-foot-1, 230-pound two-way player from Clovis North High School in southern California, announced his commitment to the Cougars at halftime of the Navy All-American Bowl on NBC.
Madsen picked BYU over a finalist group that also included Oregon and UCLA, and a group of offers that included Arizona, Arizona State, Boston College, Washington and others.
Madsen is a top-200 overall player in the Class of 2025 by 247Sports, the No. 19 linebacker and No. 17 prospect in California who also played running back. He ran for 1,238 yards and 19 touchdowns as a senior, in addition to 49 tackles, three tackles for loss and four interceptions on defense.
He's also an Eagle scout and won two CIF state titles in track and field last year before he committed to the flagship school of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
"Family is everything, and faith is even more important," Madsen told NBC. "I want to continue my education at a school who respects that and lets me live it every day."

It's the second time in as many years the Cougars have received an All-American Bowl commitment. Former Bountiful four-star athlete Faletau Satuala committed to the Cougars during the game a year ago, enrolled at BYU, and became an immediate contributor when the 6-foot-4 safety with nine tackles and an interception in 12 games during the Cougars' 11-2 campaign of 2024.
That won't be the case for Madsen, who plans to serve a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before enrolling. He'll be returning ahead of the 2027 season.
An Adidas Football All-American and two-time All-American by Nike in track and field, Madsen visited the Cougars back in June, but that was before he received a scholarship offer from the Ducks, according to 247Sports. He then took an official visit Dec. 13 to Oregon, his final visit, according to the recruiting service.
Earlier in the week, Madsen was named the San Antonio-based all-star game's Man of the Year. The award is presented to the All-American Bowl selection every year who "epitomizes a high standard of excellence in community service and athletic distinction."
Past winners of the award include Paris Johnson Jr., Caleb Williams and Garrett Wilson.
