ST. GEORGE — The man convicted of killing a 2-year-old in St. George in July of 2023 appeared for sentencing Tuesday, after he was found guilty of child abuse-homicide following a jury trial held in November.

A sentencing hearing was held in the case of Randy Holt Lessing, 30, who was found guilty of first-degree felony reckless child abuse homicide and obstruction of justice, a second-degree felony.

The case was filed following an incident reported on July 19, 2023, when police received a call that an unconscious 2-year-old had been admitted to St. George Regional Hospital, as previously reported by St. George News.

The toddler, Emmaline Mitchell, had sustained significant trauma to her head. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was flown from St. George to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas, where she died several days later.
