WEST VALLEY CITY — A West Jordan man was arrested Sunday after police say he assaulted a woman, kidnapped a child and crashed into a home in West Valley City.

David Anthony Mora, 26, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated kidnapping, child kidnapping, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, domestic violence in the presence of a child, DUI and other potential charges.

West Valley police responded to a report of a domestic dispute Saturday that ended with a vehicle crashing into a home, an injured person, and a driver on the run, according to a police booking affidavit.

A woman said the driver was an ex-boyfriend. Police say after several interviews, it was determined Mora had been assaulting the woman over several days.

On Saturday, Mora elbowed the woman in the mouth, knocking teeth out "resulting in permanent disfigurement," police say. She then tried to get away when Mora jumped on her car. The car came to a stop and Mora tried to force his way in and took control of the car, the affidavit states.

The woman was unable to get out of the car before Mora began driving, the affidavit says. Two children were in the car at the time. One of the children was the woman's daughter.

"The vehicle then proceeded at a high rate of speed through a neighborhood ... swerving across lanes of travel as the vehicle left the roadway and struck a home in a residential neighborhood," the affidavit states. "The accident resulted in substantial damage to the home."

After the crash, police say, Mora then got out of the car and took the child with him. At one point, he allegedly left the girl on the ground as he continued to flee.

After a short foot chase by police, Mora was arrested.

The arrest report says Mora has a long history of domestic violence cases and threatened to kill the woman on "multiple occasions" and choked the victim more than 20 times in the past two months.
