SALT LAKE CITY — The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints testified of Christ in a Christmas message to the church's members on Friday.

The church's leaders, President Russell M. Nelson, President Dallin H. Oaks, and President Henry B. Eyring, said they are grateful to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ with others, calling this a "joyful time of year."

"Although he was born in humble circumstances, he is the central figure in all human history. His mission affects all who have lived and will yet live. Through his Atonement and Resurrection, he did what we could not do for ourselves: overcome death and be reconciled to our Heavenly Father," the message said.

They said God gave the world his son, quoting from John 3:16.

"We share our witness and knowledge of this most important gift and invite you to do the same this Christmas season," they said.

The First Presidency will be hosting an annual Christmas devotional on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 6 p.m. In person tickets are sold out, but the devotional will be streamed live on the church's website and YouTube channel.
