SCOFIELD, Carbon County — Both directions of state Route 96, about 6 miles north of Scofield Reservoir, were closed after a fatal head-on crash Tuesday.

The accident happened just before 2 p.m. according to the Utah Division of Transportation traffic website. A semitruck was heading east and struck a pickup truck traveling in the opposition direction at mile marker 17, north of the reservoir, said Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cam Roden.

The "adult female passenger of the pickup truck was killed," Roden said. Investigators are trying to figure out what exactly caused the accident, and "who crossed over," but "weather appears to be a factor."

No other information was given, including the medical status of the drivers of both vehicles or the identity of the woman killed.
