SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Rep. Burgess Owens and Katrina Fallick-Wang will cap off a series of nonpartisan general election debates Thursday night as they make their cases for representing Utah's 4th Congressional District.

Owens, a former professional football player, was first elected in 2020 and is seeking his third full term in Congress. The Republican serves on the House Education and Labor Committee, and has made education a key part of his time in Congress. Owens has promoted school choice policies and criticized what he calls "indoctrination" at some elite universities.

Democrat Fallick-Wang is a relative newcomer to politics, who grew up in Washington state and was drawn to Utah in 2008 by the state's growing tech sector. She has spoken about the intersection of tech and environmental protection, and hopes to remove "roadblocks" and "regulations" she says are getting in the way of advancing clean energy.

Thursday's debate, which is the seventh and final general election contest hosted by the nonprofit Utah Debate Commission, begins at 6 p.m. at the PBS Utah studio on the campus of the University of Utah. KUER assistant news director Caroline Ballard will moderate. The debate will be streamed live in its entirety below.
