BRIGHAM CITY — A shed hunter, searching for dropped antlers on the mountainside east of Brigham City, recently stumbled upon what was later determined to be human remains.

Brigham City police say the man contacted them after finding what he thought was a human skull on Sept. 27. The hunter was roaming the mountainside above the B marker, within the bounds of Brigham City, when he found the remains, according to Brigham City police detective Crystal Beck.

The man marked the location with GPS without touching the skull to allow detectives to find the skull, a news release says.

On Oct. 3, police brought Rocky Mountain Search Dogs back to the area to try and find the rest of the remains but came up empty-handed. The skull was taken to the medical examiner's office for further investigation, police say, but no other details have been released, including the location of the remains.

Beck said the medical examiner will "work their magic" to try to find out how old the skull is and whether there is any possibility of identification. It is the only human remains in evidence currently.
