YELLOWSTONE CLUB, Montana — Tom Weiskopf's biggest PGA victory came in 1973 at the British Open.
"He loved winning the British Open. He's very proud of that," his wife Laurie Weiskopf said. "He's proud of his career."
But she said her husband was most proud of his second career: designing golf courses.
"He has a beautiful eye. He's driven to perfection — and you can't always get perfection — but he really tried," Laurie Weiskopf said. "He tried to make his courses fun, playable, challenging, interesting, beautiful."
Maybe none is as beautiful as his 73rd design: Black Desert Resort in St. George, his final gift to golf. Tom Weiskopf passed away from cancer two years ago.
"Having this be Tom's last course is just such an honor to have Tom be so involved and have his heart poured into this course," said Patrick Manning, the managing partner for Black Desert.
Laurie Weiskopf talks about how she and Tom first met, their love of the outdoors, and how this week's inaugural Black Desert Championship will bring back a flood of memories. See their story in the video above.
