ST. GEORGE— Two women were sentenced to federal prison following a traffic stop on I-15 in Washington City in May 2022 — when officers recovered 6 pounds of narcotics in a speaker box in the trunk.

Two defendants, 35-year-old Patricia Karley Moreno and 36-year-old Roxanna Hernandez, both of Southern California, were sentenced in U.S. District Court in St. George.

The pair were arrested on May 11, 2022, during a traffic stop on I-15 near mile marker 12 in Washington City for equipment violations, according to charging documents filed with the court.

Officers searched the vehicle after a K-9 officer indicated the possible presence of narcotics. During the search, officers found a large speaker box in the trunk that had tool marks where several screws were located, appearing as if the screws had been removed and reattached several times.
