SALT LAKE CITY — The return of the college football season was entertaining and exciting for all involved — unless you were Florida State.

Too soon?

In the new era of the 12-team playoff, Florida State managed to take itself out of playoff contention in Week 1; that's pretty special. There's always a first for everything. 😜

If the salt hasn't burned too bad in those open wounds, we'll move on to the games that were available for KSL.com Sports' College Football Pick'em for Week 1. Locally, the three FBS teams took care of business and secured easy points for those that picked them to win.

Outside of those three games, the two national games provided a little more intrigue.

Only 43% of all picks had Miami going on the road to The Swamp and ending Florida's decades-long season-opening win streak. As such, the average points earned for that game was only 14 (out of 50).

In the other game, 60% of all picks believed that Notre Dame would get a win on the road against Texas A&M. The game was tight, with the Fighting Irish pulling away in the end.

Did you go a perfect 5-0 this week? Maybe 4-1?

For at least two Utah fans and an Oklahoma fan, the first week of action was profitable. Utah fan "Dustin Bustin" topped the leaderboard with a perfect 5-0 week and a total score of 215. Mr. Bustin narrowly edged out Oklahoma fan Zachary Allan (213 points) and Utah fan Lisa Watteyne (212 points) for Week 1.

Congrats to our winners, who will get a $100, $50 an $25 Amazon gift card, respectively, courtesy of Goldenwest Credit Union.

The overall winners of Pick'em this year will receive a $500 gift card for first place, a $250 gift card for second place and a $100 gift card for third place.

Below are the results from Week 1, including the updated leaderboard from the KSL.com Sports group.
