ROY — A man crossing the street at a crosswalk was struck and killed by a car in Roy on Monday night.

A 65-year-old Roy man was crossing the street with a walker at the 1900 W. 5600 South intersection about 5:30 p.m. A driver turning left didn't see him and struck the man, knocking him to the ground, Roy police said.

Drivers who were stopped at the light saw the incident and rushed to help him. A highway patrol trooper happened to be in the area during the crash and administered CPR until paramedics arrived.

The man was taken to a hospital but later died from his injuries. His name has not yet been released.

Police said the intersection was busy from rush hour, and there were cones out from construction. Police believe the signal to walk was on for the man.

The driver who hit the man stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
