FARMINGTON — A Bountiful man now faces numerous felony charges after police say a camera was found in the women's locker room recording employees "in various stages of dress."

Gavin Allen Malo, 23, was charged Thursday in 2nd District Court with 14 counts of voyeurism, a third-degree felony.

The cameras were found in the Kaysville office of the Davis County Mosquito Abatement District. Malo, a field tech, was placed on administrative leave in June after he was arrested and was fired shortly after, said district manager Gary Hatch.

On June 25, an employee at the building reported to police "she noticed a wire with electrical tape protruding from the side of a vent cover in the ceiling," charging documents say. The employee, investigating the source of the wire, found a camera connected to a battery pack "concealed within the vent," according to investigators, who believe the tape securing the wire came loose, exposing the recording device.

The camera's memory card showed almost 200 video files and over 150 images, capturing 14 different people in the locker room, according to the charges.

The camera also captured Malo in the women's locker room "looking directly up toward the camera and manipulating an application on his phone," the charges say, and police found that the device was connected to the building's Wi-Fi that is only accessible to employees.

When Malo learned of the investigation, police said he called and confessed to installing the camera.

The camera was positioned toward one employee in particular, who told police the two had dated "a few years prior," but Malo "had never seemed to accept the breakup" and that the employee was "very fearful about this escalation," according to charging documents.

According to Hatch, employees involved "were given some personal time off and provided any counseling they requested."
