PAYSON — Authorities have identified a mother and her child who were killed in a single-car crash in Payson early Tuesday.

The Utah County Sheriff's Office said Friday that Mariana Zulzireth Tejeda-Sixto, 20, of Santaquin, and her son, 15-month-old Thiago Vasquez, died from injuries suffered in the crash.

An emergency call came in about 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Austin Edwards said a car had crashed into a cement barrier and a tree near 12041 South and 5600 West.

Edwards said lifesaving measures were performed on both the mother and child at the scene, and both were taken to Mountain View Hospital, where they later died.

Later Tuesday, a post by the sheriff's office on X said the car had been traveling "well in excess of the speed limit" and failed to stop for a stop sign.

It is unclear if Tejeda-Sixto was the driver, or if someone else was driving.

Utah Highway Patrol, Payson Police Department and Santaquin Police Department all assisted with the crash on scene.
