PROVO — A Taylorsville man was charged Wednesday with assaulting a 16-year-old boy after believing the teen had just dinged the door of his car.

Chika Perry Wonodi, 32, is charged in 4th District Court with aggravated assault, a third-degree felony.

On April 25, Wonodi became angry at a 16-year-old in the parking lot of a McDonald's "because he thought (the teen) struck his vehicle when (he) opened his own car door," according to charging documents.

Wonodi reached into the driver's side door where the teen was sitting, "pulled him out, and put his hands around (the teen's) neck, restricting his airway to the point that (the teen) said he could not breathe," the charges allege.

Provo police say there was no damage to Wonodi's vehicle. Prosecutors have requested that Wonodi be held in the Utah County Jail without the possibility of posting bail pending trial.
