MUNICH, Germany — In a crazy election year, it's nice to think back to what united us last summer: Taylor Swift.

Love her music or hate it, you have to admit she bridges political divides and brings people together in lots of — sometimes unconventional — ways. Just look at what happened in Munich this weekend, when thousands of Swiftie superfans camped out on Olympia Hill to hear her play in Olympic Stadium a quarter-mile away.

Even from that distance, the sound quality is pretty good. Check out this video of thousands of fans enjoying Swift's hits without paying the hefty price tag for tickets.

Olympic Hill, which has one of the highest elevations in Munich, was described by onlookers as "an anthill" as thousands of ticketless fans swarmed the spot. Police estimated 25,000 people were there each night.

Concert organizers welcomed the unconventional overflow seating, even providing water and emergency blankets to protect people from the heat.

"Taylor-gating," as some have affectionately dubbed it, isn't new. When Swift's tour took her through the U.S., it wasn't uncommon to see ticketless fans singing and dancing in parking lots outside of the pop star's concerts. You've got to admit, Olympic Hill is a pretty scenic alternative to the American tailgating approach.

Sunday was Swift's last concert in Germany. This weekend, she'll be in Warsaw for three shows before heading to Vienna and London, wrapping up the European leg of her tour on Aug. 20.
