MANTUA, Box Elder County — Recent fires on Rocky Dugway Road in Mantua, Box Elder County, have puzzled the community and damaged at least three properties.
Police do not know the official causes of the fires, though it's possible they were started by a person or group of people. If the fires were ignited by people, their targets have been abandoned structures and a construction site. All of the fires occurred between midnight and 5 a.m., the Mantua Police Department said in a press release Thursday.
The fire department responded to the most recent fire Thursday at 4 a.m., finding a building under construction that they described as a "total loss." Nobody was injured.
"We are asking members of the public to understand this is an ongoing investigation, and we are working diligently with the Box Elder County Fire Marshal's Office and the state of Utah Fire Marshal's Office to determine the official causes of these fires," the police department said.
Police encourage residents to ensure their security cameras are functional. Any footage of the fires from security cameras or doorbell cameras is helpful, police said.
If residents see something suspicious, they can reach nonemergency police dispatch at 435-734-3800 Ext. 0.
