SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake and Murray police departments are asking the public to come forward with information regarding two unrelated stabbings that happened within the past two weeks.
Fatal stabbing in Salt Lake City
Homicide detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department are asking for help identifying two women who may have witnessed the fatal stabbing of 28-year-old Oscar Vera in the early hours of May 1.
Officers found Vera on the ground with a "critical injury" after what they believe was a large fight among people leaving a nightclub near 32 E. Exchange Place. Vera died from the injuries in the hospital two days later, police said in a press release at the time.
Police released photos Wednesday of potential witnesses standing near Exchange Place on that Sunday morning. One of the women appears to have a large tattoo of the words "Love you" on her forearm.
Investigators believe that the women are among several people who witnessed the stabbing but left before officers arrived.
Police are asking anyone with information, including video and photos, "or (anyone) who has seen social media posts related to the stabbing," to call 801-799-3000 and ask to speak with a police officer.
Murray stabbing
Two men reported being assaulted by a man with a knife while walking back to their hotel near 580 W. 5300 South about 9:40 p.m. Tuesday.
After the assault, the men went into the nearby Holiday Gas Station with stab wounds to the arms and hands. They were taken to the hospital for treatment and have since been released.
The stabbing victims said the suspect was a white male with curly green hair, between 5-foot-9 and 6 feet tall. He was wearing a gray hoodie and a black medical mask.
Murray detectives asked anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident to call 801-840-4000 and reference case MR23-16154.
