SALT LAKE CITY — Two people were hospitalized after a car crashed near Utah's Capitol early Wednesday, according to police in Salt Lake.

Salt Lake City Police Department Sgt. George Uyema told KSL the crash was reported around 2 a.m. at the intersection of 500 North and Columbus Street. The car had been traveling north on Columbus Street when it left the road and hit a wall.

When first responders arrived at the scene, two occupants were found in critical condition and had to be removed from the car, Uyema said. Police later said their injuries no longer appeared to be life-threatening.

The cause of the crash was still under investigation as of Wednesday morning.
