BERYL, Iron County — A new southern Utah wildfire is growing rapidly and is forcing some cabin evacuations near Steamboat Mountain in Iron County.
What's being referred to as the Sawmill Fire expanded to an estimated 900 acres by 9 p.m., according to state fire managers' website Utah Fire Info.
Fire officials said active suppression operations remain ongoing with heavy equipment operators running dozers into the night, working ahead of the fire's progression to establish reliable fuel breaks.
The fire is burning near the towns of Beryl and Lund.

Crews are battling the fire from the air and on the ground; additional resources are also being deployed.
"Out of an abundance of caution, the Iron County Sheriff's Office is evacuating roughly half a dozen cabins and yurts located 2-4 miles from the fire," officials said.
If the fire expands and threatens permanent homes, the sheriff's office said it would deploy a reverse-911 alert to registered residents.
The cause is under investigation.
