SALT LAKE CITY — A man was arrested Thursday for the alleged sexual assault of a woman running along the Jordan River Trail.
Brigham Vladlen Morse, 32, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated sexual assault, attempted aggravated sexual assault and unlawful detention.
On May 30, a woman was running along the Jordan River Trail in Salt Lake City between 200 South and North Temple when she was approached by Morse — a stranger — who "made a comment about being naked in the river with him," according to a police booking affidavit.
"The victim stated that Brigham placed his hand on her buttocks and followed her as she continued along the trail," the affidavit states.
Morse continued to make sexual comments as they walked, and he placed his hand on her lower back to guide her along the path, according to the affidavit.
"The victim stated that Brigham told her that he has a short temper and has put his friends in the hospital when they make him angry. The victim stated that at one point she tried to turn down a road, but Brigham continued to guide her down the Jordan River Trail while warning her not to make him angry," the affidavit states. "The victim expressed that she was fearful to walk away because she did not know what Brigham would do ... The victim expressed that due to this incident, she no longer feels safe on the trail."
Morse hugged the woman, told her his name and gave her his number before leaving.
Using that information along with surveillance video, investigators confirmed Morse's identity and located and arrested him on Thursday.
