HURRICANE, Washington County — Crews recovered the body of a Michigan man who went missing Thursday afternoon from Sand Hollow Reservoir.

About 12:58 p.m., someone reported that a 22-year-old man who had last been seen swimming at the reservoir's dive park was missing, said Utah Department of Natural Resources Capt. Chase Pili.

In an update later on Thursday, Pili said About 5 p.m, the body of the missing man was located and recovered from the reservoir by rescuers who responded to the effort.

"This is a tragic and unfortunate circumstance," Pili said in a statement. "The Utah Department of Natural Resources law enforcement extends condolences to family and friends."

The man's identity was not released, and the incident is under investigation.

Additionally, officials urged those planning outdoor recreational activities this summer to prioritize safety.

"While enjoying your outdoor activities, always travel with a partner, ensure life jackets and helmets are worn, and share your itinerary and anticipated return with others," the department said in a statement.

Officials also encourage the public to check the environmental and water conditions of the locations where they intend to recreate.
