SALT LAKE CITY — Soccer fans in Salt Lake City got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity on Wednesday as the original FIFA World Cup trophy made a stop in the city ahead of the 2026 tournament.
Since the beginning of the year, the iconic trophy has traveled across the globe, visiting 30 FIFA member associations and more than 75 stops.
The Coca-Cola sponsored tour is designed to build excitement for the largest FIFA World Cup yet, which will feature more teams, more matches and more countries than ever before.
"This is of course to get people ready for the FIFA World Cup 2026. This is going to be a big one, this is going to be bigger than ever with more countries and more games, so there's already a lot of excitement," said Erica Hansen, a spokesperson for Coca-Cola.
Former World Cup champion Gilberto Silva added, "The United States is hosting this competition to bring all of us together for a great purpose: to bring happiness to people."
The trophy will be on display in Salt Lake City for invited guests and fans before continuing its journey to Portland, Oregon, its next stop on the tour.
