LOGAN — Managers at Beaver Mountain are keeping a close eye on conditions at the ski resort, as temperatures are set to heat up over the next few days.

Mountain operations manager Travis Seeholzer said the resort's east-facing slope in Logan Canyon has managed to bring it colder conditions and more snow than some other resorts around northern Utah.

"We felt pretty good about (this spring) until this forecast kind of popped up with these high temperatures, and I think it's over pretty much the entire western United States right now," Seeholzer said. "I don't think I've ever seen 60 degrees up here while we were open, and the forecast is calling for that."

Seeholzer said thanks to an experienced crew of groomers, the resort has been able to move caches of snow from the top of the mountain down to lower areas that might be more challenged. However, he's concerned about how long they'll be able to keep that up. The resort is currently slated to remain open through April 5.

"And honestly, it is a little bit in jeopardy," Seeholzer admitted. "I think we're kind of waiting as is; I think most the ski areas in the state (are waiting) to see what this week (brings)."

The resort has already canceled two annual events set for later this month, its Directive Derby and Pond Skim. Still, Seeholzer remains optimistic, as March in Utah can always take another turn.

"You just hope the next storm that pops up is a colder storm, because we've only had a couple this winter," he said.
