OGDEN — An Ogden man received a jail sentence of about a year, much of it suspended, and two years of probation for attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a 16-year-old.

Joshua Michael Carroll, 27, pleaded no contest on Jan. 13 to the class A misdemeanor charge as part of a plea agreement. Judge Reuben Renstrom on Monday sentenced him to 364 days in jail, with 244 days suspended and credit granted for 120 days previously served, meaning no additional jail time, presuming no probation violations. Carroll will be on probation for two years, among other conditions.

Carroll was charged in October with two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a 16- or 17-year-old, a third-degree felony, on or around July 25. As part of the plea deal, prosecutors agreed to reduce the first count from a third-degree felony to a class A misdemeanor and to drop the other charge. In the agreement, Carroll admitted to sexual activity with a 16-year-old boy, though he claimed he was unaware of his age.

Officials launched an investigation into the matter after the victim's father reported his suspicions that the boy was having sex with adult men, according to the plea deal.
