BOUNTIFUL — The South Davis Metro Fire department announced Saturday its fire chief had died.

Fire Chief Greg Stewart died on Friday at 51 years old. The fire department did not specify his cause of death.

"Chief Stewart was a visionary leader with a deep commitment to serve others and his community. He was most known for his natural ability to see the potential in his people and actively invest in their growth and development," a statement from the fire department said.

Stewart first began working for South Davis Metro Fire in 2001. In the last 25 years, he served in every position in the department — firefighter, engineer, captain, battalion chief and deputy chief — before becoming the fire chief in October 2024.

"We extend our deepest condolences to his family, colleagues and friends. As we grieve together, we kindly ask for privacy and respect during this difficult time," the fire department said.
