MILAN — Sunday, the world's best women alpine skiers will hit the slopes in Cortina — and that includes Lindsey Vonn.
On Friday, Lindsey Vonn skied in a training race. She did not go particularly fast, at least for Lindsey Vonn standards.
She skied again Saturday in what was her final training race, and she skied quite a bit faster. The snow was a lot more firm, which her coach, Aksel Lund Svindal, said is something she likes.
Saturday, after Vonn completed her training, her coach was asked what his expectations are for these Games.
"She's very good at racing, so I think tomorrow she'll have high expectations of herself and I think those high expectations means fighting for a medal and that's what I would expect," Lund Svindal said.
It has been just over a week since Vonn wiped out and crashed in Switzerland during a World Cup event. Later, she announced here in Cortina that she was still going to try to compete in the Olympics, despite having completely torn her ACL in that crash.
Vonn is one of many skiers with ties to Salt Lake City.
After her training, KSL-TV caught up with Mary Bocock from Salt Lake City, who is about to make her Olympic debut.
"Thank you so much for all the support," Bocock said of the support she is getting from home. "I've gotten so many messages from people throughout my whole life, growing up in Salt Lake. And so it's been — I really, really appreciate it. It's so nice to know I have such a big support system there."
The women's Alpine ski events kick off tomorrow, Super Bowl Sunday, here in Cortina.
