WEST VALLEY CITY — Three men are dead as a result of "accidental" carbon monoxide poisoning, West Valley City police announced Friday afternoon.

West Valley City spokesperson Sam Johnson said police responded to the call about 2 p.m. near 2730 S. High Park Way.

The men were left inside of a van they were being transported in from assisted living facilities, Johnson said.

Johnson said the driver, a man, stopped at home and parked the van inside of a garage, where it was left running for several hours.

"The employee reports returning to the vehicle one to two hours later, at which time, he found all three men in the vehicle deceased," Johnson told reporters during a briefing Friday evening.

It is unclear where the men were being transported to, but Johnson said they were all from different assisted living facilities.

Identities of the deceased men have not been released as officials work to contact their next of kin. Johnson said the driver is cooperating with authorities as the investigation continues.
