TAYLORSVILLE — A child was injured Friday in a shooting that also prompted Granite School District administrators to issue safety protocols at six nearby schools.

Taylorsville police said emergency dispatchers received several calls shortly after noon, reporting a fight among juveniles in a parking lot near 5600 South and Redwood Road.

Information about what prompted the fight and eventual shooting was not immediately available, but Taylorsville police officer Jordan Lenz said the child's injury is not considered life-threatening.

While the shooter is still at large, Lenz said this is believed to be an "isolated incident," and there is no outstanding threat to the public. Investigators were working to identify and locate those involved in the shooting.

The incident prompted six schools in the Granite School District to be placed under secure protocol, meaning "the doors are locked and no one is allowed in or out of the building," according to a district statement.

Granite spokesman Luke Allen said that as of 12:50 p.m., secure protocol had been lifted in all schools.
