CEDAR CITY — Utah Valley University took control early and never looked back, defeating Southern Utah 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Thunderbird Soccer Field.

The Wolverines opened the match scoring in just two minutes when Ruby Hladek found the back of the net off an assist from Bailey Peterson.

After holding a 1-0 lead through halftime, Utah Valley extended its advantage in the 68th minute as Josie Shepherd scored her third goal of the season, assisted by Quinn Rustand and Marie Quentel.

Just four minutes later, Quentel added a goal of her own her second of the year set up by Sadie Beardall to seal the 3-0 win for Utah Valley.

Southern Utah worked to generate chances throughout the match but couldn't break through Utah Valley's strong defensive line and consistent pressure in the midfield.

With the win, Utah Valley improves its standing in conference play, while Southern Utah looks to regroup ahead of its next home match.
