ST. GEORGE — For a moment, it looked like the Trailblazers might be able to beat the undefeated Texans, but Tarleton proved otherwise with a 41-23 win Saturday night.
Utah Tech opened strong with a rushing touchdown by Reggie Graff to start up 7-0. Tarleton quickly clapped back, quarterback James Paige scored a touchdown on the ground, then found with Danny Joiner for another touchdown to take a 13-7 lead to end the first quarter.
Utah Tech kept things close with a field goal early in the second, cutting the deficit to 13-10, but Paige struck again breaking free for his second rushing touchdown of the night. The Trailblazers added another field goal before halftime to stay within reach at 20-13.
After the break, Ilya Uvaydov gave the home crowd hope with a 37-yard field goal to end the second, and another field goal to start the third making the score 20-13.
Before Paige continued to dominate, punching in another touchdown late in the third and adding a fourth touchdown in the final quarter to put the game out of reach.Daniel Thomason scored a late touchdown for the Trailblazers, but Tarleton sealed things with a final rushing touchdown by Daniel Greek in the last minute.
The win keeps Tarleton perfect at 7-0, while Utah Tech falls to 1-5. The Trailblazers look forward to their next game Oct. 25 where they will face The Thunderbirds of Southern Utah.
