THE SWAP MEET — Some sounds are simply unmistakable. The first few notes of the "Jaws" theme. The sound of bacon frying. The beeping sound that large trucks make while backing up. The sound of a "Star Wars" blaster. The sound of a police siren.

Why are they so memorable? Probably because we've heard them so many times. Even if you don't eat bacon, you've heard it being cooked in movies. And you might never have seen "Jaws," but the theme has been parodied so many times that it's now basically a required element of any non-Disney cartoon.

There's also an element of consistency. Whether you're frying bacon in a cabin in Austria or on a beach in Argentina, it's going to sound roughly the same.

So our ears are conditioned to recognize these sounds. Even from a distance, they're easily detected. But that familiarity can also be exploited, like in this video.

Sure sounds like a backup beeper. In fact, many of the people who heard it approaching probably felt a wave of panic, thinking a garbage truck was bearing down on them.

But, nope. It's just a pair of creative musicians bringing some smiles to their local swap meet.
