ST. GEORGE — A proposed five-story apartment complex and accompanying parking structure were approved for Tech Ridge by the St. George Planning Commission earlier this week. While the development aligns with the goal of constructing housing within the developing tech park, some neighbors say they aren't thrilled with the idea.

Set to be built just south of Black Hill View Park between Donlee Drive and Tech Ridge Drive, the apartment complex covers approximately 5 acres. It's planned to feature 199 units and over 400 parking spaces between an outdoor parking lot and a neighboring multilevel parking garage.

The apartment is slated to be built on the northern edge of the Tech Ridge development and be the first structure that greets drivers coming up the road from the Bluff Street and St. George Boulevard intersection.

The proposed complex is similar in height to other developments in St. George, like Joule Plaza in the downtown area and the Campus View Suites II complex at Utah Tech University.

The complex was on the Planning Commission's Tuesday agenda and ultimately passed, despite opposition from nearby residents regarding its size, location, traffic and other issues. While a number of residents attended the public hearing for the project, others submitted letters outlining their reasons for opposing it.
