AMERICAN FORK — A Pleasant Grove man died days after sustaining severe injuries when he crashed into a tree during a motorcycle ride in American Fork Canyon.
On July 8, Brian Dowd, 60, was riding his Harley Davidson along state Route 92 when, for an unknown reason, he rode off the road and crashed into a tree.
Dowd was transferred to a hospital by helicopter in critical condition, said Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cameron Roden.
Dowd died eight days later. He suffered internal bleeding, collapsed lungs as well as trauma to his spleen and liver after the crash, according to a GoFundMe* campaign by friends and family to assist Dowd's wife with expenses.
His obituary says he was a firefighter and paramedic, among "other pursuits to provide for his family.
"He took joy in helping those in need and making the world a better place one selfless act at a time. He excelled at putting others' lives before his own and possessed a talent for nurturing and inspiring others by teaching his many skills, which ranged from wilderness survival to emergency preparation and adapting to challenges," his obituary states.
