SALT LAKE CITY — A man who says he works security at a Salt Lake business has been arrested and accused of shooting another man.

Amos Gerson Lucero, 66, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail early Tuesday for investigation of illegal discharge of a gun causing serious injury.

Salt Lake police were called on Monday at about 11:50 p.m. to 601 S. Iron Rose Place (3830 West) on a report of a shooting. Officers arrived to find a 41-year-old man with a gunshot wound. The man, whose name was not released, was "stable" and was taken to a hospital, where he was later downgraded to critical condition, according to a statement from police on Tuesday.

"He is expected to survive, but he sustained serious bodily injuries," police spokesman Brent Weisberg said.

The victim was shot multiple times. Lucero was found nearby with blood on his hands and clothing, according to a police booking affidavit.

"Officers also observed (Lucero) was wearing a pistol-style ankle holster. Officers additionally located spent firearm casings and blood near 601 S. Iron Rose Place. Prior to being transported to an area hospital for his serious bodily injuries, the victim said, 'The guy working security shot me,'" the affidavit alleges.

When talking to police, Lucero allegedly made statements claiming the victim had been messing with him for two years.

"He went into my … home. I considered him a threat. Now, I'll go to prison for the rest of my life," he told detectives, according to the arrest report.
