Man killed in head-on collision on US 89 in Sanpete County

INDIANOLA, Sanpete County — A 68-year-old man died Thursday after his SUV collided head-on with a semitruck near Indianola in Sanpete County.

The man was southbound in a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe on U.S. 89 when the Tahoe crossed the center line near milepost 293, about 3 miles south of Indianola, and collided with the northbound semitruck, according to a statement from Utah Highway Patrol. The crash happened about 1 p.m.

The statement says the driver of the Tahoe is suspected to have suffered a medical condition while driving, causing him to lose control of his vehicle. He suffered fatal injuries and died on scene.

The 62-year-old man driving the semi suffered minor injuries, UHP said.

U.S. 89 was closed for a few hours on Thursday while troopers conducted their investigation.

Names of those involved had not been released as of Friday.
